70th anniversary of La Tomatina Festival

70th Anniversary of La Tomatina Festival

Today, August 26, is (supposedly) the 70th anniversary of La Tomatina, the yearly Spanish tomato-throwing festival that attracts tens of thousands to the tiny town of Buñol, Spain. There, they throw tomatoes, get messy, and clean off in the river. It's a quaint village festival that's supposed to show the quirky character of the locals.

As they say The history of La Tomatina is a lot like any food fight — it's a little bit of fun that got way out of hand.
As Wikipedia puts it and I quote (Courtesy Wikipedia) - "La Tomatina (Spanish pronunciation: [la tomaˈtina]) is a festival that is held in the Valencian town of Buñol, a town located in the East of Spain 30 km / 19 miles from the Mediterranean, in which participants throw tomatoes and get involved in this tomato fight purely for entertainment purposes. Since 1945 It has been held on the last Wednesday of August, during the week of festivities of Buñol.

More of its history - La Tomatina started on the last Wednesday of August in 1945 (29th August 1945) when some young people went to the town square to attend the Giants and Big-Head figures parade. They decided to join the parade with a musician. The group's [weasel words] excitement caused a person to fall from the float. The participant flew into a fit of rage and started to hit everything in his path. There was a market stall of vegetables that fell victim to what soon became a furious crowd. People started to pelt each other with tomatoes until the local law enforcement ended the battle.
The following year, the young people picked a quarrel by their own decision and brought the tomatoes from home. Although the police broke up the early tradition in the following years, the young boys had made history without being conscious about it. La Tomatina was banned in the early 50s, which was not a problem for the participants who were even arrested. But the people spoke and the festivity was again allowed with more participants and more frenetic feelings."

Till date it is featured as the most amazing and most attended Festival by all tourists! The only problem with that romantic myth? Buñol doesn't grow any tomatoes, and tickets, ranging from around $12 to $75, are sold by a company called Spaintastic.
For the third time in a row, the capacity of La Tomatina will be regulated by selling tickets for the event, a measure that "guarantees the sustainability of the party, better security and more fun for the attenders ”. This year, it is estimated that almost 145000 kg of tomatoes will be thrown. As with previous years, participants of many nationalities are expected. You ca see how people rush to the trucks filled with tomatoes as they arrive...
Yes love galore all over the festival and to avoid any unruly scenes the local city council of Buñol has laid down some guidelines:

The city council follows a short list of instructions for the safety of the participants and the festival:
  • The tomatoes have to be squashed before throwing to avoid injuries.
  • No other projectiles except tomatoes are allowed.
  • Participants have to make way for trucks and lorries.
  • After the second shot indicative of ending the tomato hurl, no tomatoes should be thrown.
La Tomatina Buñol has inspired similar celebrations in other parts of the world but is it is not as exciting as it it here at the point of origin.

Who can forget our own Bollywood scenes of Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif in the Tomatina festival?
The festival was re-created for the song "Ik Junoon (Paint it red)" from the 2011 Indian Bollywood film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
Why not conclude this post with this wonderful romantic song from the same film.
I am sure this festival this year also may have created a great Anniversary Ripple in Spain and millions may have attended it!

No, it is not that they all have at least 2 double letters.  The answer is below!
Eureka! Eureka! The Answer is:

First Answer: They all have at least 2 double letters.
Second Answer: In all of the words listed, if you take the first letter, place it at the end of the word, and then spell the word backwards, it will be the same word.
Did you have it figured it out?

No? Then send this to more people and stump them as well. Then you'll feel better too.

Note : They are all a single letter followed by a palindrome, so that if you move the 1st letter to the end, you get the word spelled backwards. I.e. Banana = ananaB.
Also they all have at least two of the same letters in it.
A palindrome is a word, phrase, number, or other sequence of units that may be read the same way in either direction, with general allowances for adjustments to punctuation and word dividers.

The Importance of Money

During my constant interactions with my friends, and well wishers I keep getting wonderful messages, phrases, sayings, or even real time events and incidents which have left an impact on my mind. I always try to share them with you, and here is one more such good facts line which one should ponder over. Please understand that this information has not been put here with an intention to hurt anyone or belittle the persons in question or undermine their achievements in any way as all of them were great personalities, some with controversial life patterns but to highlight the absence of a balance that we need to strike in life between, our work, our family life, our social life and very importantly our endless endeavor to earn money. Yes; money is important in life as we all know for all practical purposes for material purchases but one thing money cannot buy is true happiness. This is a very strong point to muse over and decide how we should balance our quest to earn money and live a happy and fulfilled life. Read this with a pinch of salt, pick up the good things and leave out and learn to avoid the bad that you see. Happy reading. Where ever possible I have tried to give links to their Profiles or more information from Wikipedia, and other sources so that you can read ,more about them as well.

What is more important is not to highlight their downfall but to understand the reasons for it!

They forgot to make a life! Just made Money!

Money provides food for the hungry, medicine for the sick, clothes for the needy, but is only a medium of exchange.
We need two kinds of education.
One that teaches us how to make a living and one that teaches us how to live.
People are engrossed in their professional life and neglect their family, health and social responsibilities.
Our kids are sleeping when we leave home.
They are sleeping when we come home.
Twenty years later, we’ll turn back, and they’ll all be gone !!!!!.
Without water, a ship cannot move.
The ship needs water, but if the water gets into the ship, the ship will face problems and sink.
Similarly we live in a time where earning is a necessity but let not the earning enter our hearts, for what was once a means of living will be become a means of destruction.
So take a moment and ask yourself….has the water entered my ship?”
